Behind The Art

A young lady – mid to late twenties – stopped by my booth at an arts and crafts show. “I’m looking for a wedding present”, she said. I showed her an assortment of suitable pieces: “Two Stars”, “Love is Patient and Kind”, “I Am my Beloved’s”, “Ruth – Whither thou goest”, among others. “Oh, these are all great”, she exclaimed. “The problem will be narrowing it down to one”. As she studied her choices she commented, “This is a very unusual wedding”. “How so?” I asked. “Well, the couple were married, but they divorced – about eighteen years ago. Now they’re remarrying”. “Forget all those pictures I just showed you”, I said, and led her to the “Behold”. “Ahh!” she gasped, “that’s it”. Then, as I was slipping the piece into a shopping bag, she murmured, in a lower voice, “It’s my Mom and Dad”.
