Behind The Art
“I heard the Lord saying ‘Whom shall I send, who will go for me?’” When I read these words from Isaiah I always doubt my qualifications. Yet, I have heard it said, “The Lord is not concerned with our ability or our inability, only with our availability”. Also, “that there is no prerequisite for a calling.” In I Corinthians Paul uses an image of the interconnected, cooperating members of the human body as a symbol of our relationship to one another in the spiritual body of Christ.
Widely varied in talents, culture, strength, gifts, and abilities – we all come together to form this inclusive community, the body of believers.
“Send me”, I think, means that I am willing to carry the Gospel, the Good News, expressed through my own individual nature (if I am a foot, I will be sure footed; if I am an eye I will see clearly; if I am a back, I will be strong) into all the connections of life: family, work, society…”even using words if necessary”, as Saint Francis so charmingly says.
