I have heard it said that if you could encompass the meaning of the entire Old and New Testaments with a single statement it would be “Salvation is of the Lord”.

What moves me about this text – graphically one of my favorites – is that the response is mine, but the deed is His. 

I can decide to learn Spanish, I can plant a garden, I can get lessons in ballroom dancing or take up chess or even join a new Bible study group, and become more or less learned and effective in my chosen pursuit. And, ultimately, there is the difference. In our relationship with God, He is the pursuer.
